Linked in Friendship, Connected in Service

Each year we sponsor a wide range of projects, offer programs throughout the community and provide assistance to thousands of community children and adults, as well as children abroad. Our wide range of services includes: providing a mentorship program for teens, teaching women proper breast self-exam techniques, supporting free dental health clinics for the underserved, providing supplies and other services for elementary school students, and promoting artistic works and recognition of artists of color.

President’s Corner

Greetings from The Athens (GA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated! We thank you for exploring our website to learn more about our organization and our chapter.

The Athens (GA) Chapter was chartered in 2004 and we are proud of our rich history of providing transformational programming to our community for nearly 20 years!  Some of our signature projects include Classics Through the Ages-a program adopted from the national office which focuses on increasing knowledge and participation of African American youth in the classical arts; Links HELP-a program that provides HIV Education and Prevention; Links-NSBE Jr. Program-a program that facilitates STEM education to youth; Bridge to Success-a program that prepares young girls to meet the challenges they will face every day. In addition, we host health care, voter education, financial literacy, and elderly care workshops to educate our community.

The Athens (GA) Chapters has hosted several signature events to raise thousands of dollars for the philanthropic efforts of the chapter including Hats and Heels Brunch, Jeans, Jewels, and Jazz, Tea Party and Virtual Paint Party.  Our commitment to sustaining this legacy of service is accomplished through our five (5) Program Facets:  Services to Youth, International Trends and Services, National Trends and Services, Health and Human Services and The Arts.

Today, the Athens (GA) Chapter membership is comprised engineers, physicians, entrepreneurs, educators, financial professionals, non-profit leaders, philanthropists and corporate executives. Our personal commitment drives us to serve.  Annually, our Chapter members dedicate and invest more than 1,800 hours in service throughout our community.

Our chapter is a member of an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of more than 17,000 professional women of African descent in 299 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The Links members contribute more than 1 million documented hours of community service annually.

With sincere appreciation, the Athens (GA) Chapter would like to acknowledge and thank you for your support in our endeavors as we vigorously seek to cultivate and advance the lives of others. We encourage you to become one of our partners in service.

Yours in Friendship and Service,
Alicia Battle, President
Athens (GA) Chapter
